An exergoeconomic and normalized sensitivity based comprehensive investigation of a hybrid power-and-water desalination system

Cogeneration of power-and-water is one the potential solutions for ever-rising energy and freshwater demand. These systems have shown superior thermodynamic economic performance compared to their standalone counterparts because processes synergy shared utilities resources. The current study investigates a multi-effect distillation system operated on bleed-out steam from last stages low-pressure turbine combined cycle gas power plant (CCGT + MED). For this purpose, component-based exergoeconomic investigation integrated with normalized sensitivity analysis energy, exergy, evaluation. indicators include specific fuel consumption, thermal efficiency, exergy destruction, stream cost, product cost (electricity freshwater). showed that cogeneration scheme reduced electricity by 16.8% production 24.5% MED systems. Moreover, payback period calculated as 2.59 years selling at $1.6 /m3. are most sensitive heating value coefficients 1.71, 0.86, 0.80 0.76, 0.42 0.40, respectively. While other parameters such interest rate, index factor, efficiencies etc. remarkably low impact products.
